Although most tornadoes occur in states like Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma, there have been instances of tornadoes hitting Washington State. Few and far between, they are still very devastating.

According to wikipedia, the last tornado to hit Washington State was in 2018. The tornado hit Port Orchard and was a rare tornado that had no fatalities or major injuries reported. It was considered to be an EF2 per an on-site survey after the event. This was the first tornado since the EF0 tornado that hit Monroe Washington in 2017. The 2018 tornado was the largest ever recorded in Kitsap county, and the 12th F2/EF2 to touch down in the state of Washington since 1950.

According to the National Weather Service, tornadoes typically arrive in July and August, but have been noted in every month of the year in Washington State. Most tornadoes that hit the state are on the smaller scale.

If you do hear a tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service, remember to go to an interior room if you're in a building and wrap yourself in blankets or clothing to help prevent injury. Crouch down as low as possible. If possible, go into a basement or cellar to wait out the storm. Cover your head and don't go out until the all clear sign has been relayed.

Although tornadoes are relatively rare in Washington State, it's important to be aware that they do happen and they can be very dangerous. Follow the guidelines to ensure the safety of you, your family, and your pets. Have you ever been in a tornado in Washington State or seen one?
