Kostas Tstimikas transfer stance emerges as Liverpool left-back weighs up future

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas is being linked with a move away from Anfield this summer after four seasons at the club, although reports claim a decision has already been made over his future.

The Greek international joined the Reds in the summer of 2020 following the club's title-winning season the previous campaign, signing from Olympiacos for a reported fee of $15.2million (£11.75million/€13.9million) and so far racking up 86 appearances across all competitions.

That includes scoring the winning penalty in the FA Cup final shoot-out victory over Chelsea in 2022, before he signed a new long-term deal just a few months later that reportedly keeps him at the club until 2027. However, he has struggled to make the left-back role his own, falling behind Andy Robertson in the pecking order.

Last season did present plenty of opportunity for the Greek to impress, however, with Robertson's long-term injury rewarding Tsimikas with 25 appearances in all competitions. Now that the Scotsman is injury free, Tsimikas but reside to the fact he will become his back-up once more.

As a result, he has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer but Liverpool's transfer stance has explained why nothing serious has come of the rumors. According to the Echo , "there has been no desire from club or player for the Greek to leave.”

It's believed that both Tsimikas and the Reds are content for the Greek to remain as sufficient cover at left-back for Robertson, with neither party under any pressure to push for his departure from the club. Tsimikas has made at least 25 appearances for the Liverpool in each of his last three seasons, so it's not like he's being left out in the cold.

Last month, the Daily Mail's Lewis Steele said on The Redmen TV’s ‘Transfer Insight ’ show that he “wouldn’t be surprised if he left this summer, just based on certain things I’ve heard.”

However, it now appears that Tsimikas could well be staying put, a deal that could suit both him and Liverpool, especially the latter as it means they won't have to go out and find another replacement.
