NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — Keep It Local North Dakota has been rallying for property taxes here in the state.

A statewide coalition, Keep It Local is taking action against an initiated ballot measure to abolish property tax in North Dakota.

Mandan Park District President Wade Meschke says, “Property taxes fund parks, trails, and community centers, essential for public health, recreation, and community engagement.”

In North Dakota, about 40% of property taxes support schools, and about 53% support cities and counties.

Recently, the Carrington Fire Chief Ken Wangen got behind Keep It Local’s mission, stating that due to the resources they had available — all of which were funded by property taxes — they were able to put out a fire that broke out from 29 derailed rail cars.
