She told NRJ: "I love all of the up-and-coming girlies out on the scene and really excited for the new wave of them. Chappell is my fave. She's the best. I'm adopting her!"

This upset fans who want the veteran star to keep her distance. They let out a resounding "stay away from her," using the phrase on X, formerly known as Twitter , so much that it began to trend. A fan laughed: "The phrase 'stay away from her' is trending just because Katy Perry said she likes Chappell Roan."

"I don't like Chappell, but stay away from her!! Katy's single tanked bad, Chappell doesn't need that right now," another fan said. A third suggested: "Chappell Roan should just tweet 'who the f--- is Katy Perry' and then turn her phone off."
