Patriots reportedly made an offer to 49ers for Brandon Aiyuk before the NFL Draft

The New England Patriots have been interested in star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for some time, and have made some offers.

However, the San Francisco 49ers made it clear at the time that they weren't interested.

But now we know what the Patriots exactly offered.

Pro Football Talk reports that five teams were interested in trading for Aiyuk and paying him the money he desires. One of which was New England, who offered a second-round pick. And considering how much cap space they have this year and next year, they will certainly be in a position to pay him the roughly $28 million that he wants.

Aiyuk officially requested a trade from the 49ers in recent days, but the team has yet to make it clear if they intend to trade him or not.

    A Solid Trade Proposal

Brandon Aiyuk made it clear that he wants out of San Francisco , and that means that teams in need of a wide receiver should be calling.

One of them is the New England Patriots . And a recent report confirmed that they have inquired about Aiyuk , but were told that the 49ers are not going to trade him.

However, it seems that a deal could be made. And one NFL writer proposed a trade that might upset some Patriots fans, but would also make a lot of sense.

The Athletic's Chad Graff says the Patriots could trade edge rusher Matthew Judon and a 2025 second-round pick in exchange for Aiyuk.

"Aiyuk could fill that role for the Patriots, who have the most cap space in the league, leaving them plenty of room to extend Aiyuk. And New England could give Aiyuk tons of targets, given their middling group of wide receivers," Graff wrote.

As for why they would trade Judon, the star linebacker is set to be a free agent after the 2024 season. The Patriots have made an offer to extend the linebacker, but the two sides have not come to an agreement. And with training camp set to start soon with no new reports regarding the deal, things aren't looking up for something to get done.

He is a clear fan favorite, with many hoping that the team will keep him around so he can retire as a Patriot. However, at the age of 31 (he will be 32 in August), Judon did just suffer a season-ending injury last year. So that brings into question how much longer he will play for.

And based on his skill level along with his production the past couple of years, he is looking for a big contract. That's something the 49ers might be willing to give him, while the Patriots can focus on improving the offense.

Judon is an important part of New England's defense, but last season proved that the team has the skill to win some games without him. And the defense is in a pretty solid place, while the offense is seriously struggling and going through a complete restart. So it would make sense to invest in the offense by bringing in Aiyuk.

Plus, bringing him in this early will allow his connection with Drake Maye to start to grow. And by the 2025 season, they could be unstoppable.

The trade would sting a bit for Patriots fans, but it might be the best way to help the team get back to the top.
