Anthony Gordon sent double Liverpool transfer message but next step should be clear

Anthony Gordon has been advised against a transfer move to Liverpool this summer. The Reds were offered the chance to sign the England winger last month but rejected the opportunity because Newcastle proposed a deal that would have involved center-back Jarell Quansah moving in the other direction.

Nevertheless, Gordon continues to be linked with a move to his boyhood side and now the former Everton ace has been given some advice. Former Manchester United star Louis Saha has explained why Gordon would be better off remaining at Newcastle amid rumors of a Liverpool switch.

"I’m not surprised that there’s interest in him because he’s been showing the signs of a player that wants to develop as quickly as possible," Saha told Betfred . "I don’t think it's a good time for him to move however, because it’s not a good thing to move around different clubs frequently and he’s only been at St James’ Park for 18 months. I would advise him to remain at Newcastle this summer."

Earlier this week, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales insisted the North East club has no plans to let any key players go later this summer having successfully navigated the June 30 PSR deadline without losing Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak . In the case of Gordon, however, the player only has a couple of years left on his contract, so this is unlikely to be the end of the saga.

"In the end, we had to do the deals that were right for the club (PSR wise), that made us compliant," Eales told Chronicle Live . "So, from that perspective, we did what we had to do. But we kept what I would say are our core players, the type of players like [Alexander] Isak, Gordon, Bruno [Guimaraes], Joelinton — those players who are our core.

"Now it's a case of OK, with that new cycle ahead of us now, how can we look to strengthen? How can we look to go to the next level?" Asked whether Newcastle would begin the new season with Gordon, Isak and Guimaraes still at the club, Eales simply responded: "Yes!"

Liverpool.com says: If Gordon wants to move to Liverpool (and he would really fit in nicely on the left flank at Anfield), all he has to do is not sign a new contract at St James' Park. Next summer, when he will only have 12 months remaining on his deal, Newcastle would lose a lot of leverage when it comes to a potential exit.
