According to Bankrate , the current average 30-year fixed mortgage rate is at about 7.04 percent. With the housing market reaching some of the highest costs we have seen in the past 10 or 15 years, this is an absurd rate of interest going toward a home whose cost is driven by inflation. The current market has pushed people into renting as opposed to buying a home.

But just because you can’t afford to buy in this ridiculous inflation ridden market doesn’t mean that you can’t make your space feel custom and homey. There are plenty of rent-friendly DIY hacks to make your space feel custom. Check out this brilliant budget and renter-friendly apartment DIY. It's never been easier to upgrade your space for as little as $20!

This woman took her outdated builder grade laminate countertops and gave them new life with the faux wood contact paper application. She made her apartment countertops look like real butcher block, turning this old apartment dwelling into a modernized space for less than $20. Genius!

How To Remove Contact Paper Without Damaging Surfaces

Most of the time, contact paper bonds so well, peeling it off can be tricky. It's nearly impossible to remove it without it ripping it into a bunch of tiny shards.

One of the easiest methods for removing contact paper is to take a putty spatula and rub some GooGone on the tip of it. Slide the putty knife under the contact paper and work it up as you pull. Keep applying the GooGone to the end as you need to work it up easily. Once you have the sheet of contact paper up, give the surface a wipe with the GooGone and a clean rag to lift any residue and polish it with a diluted vinegar mixture.
