With the high cost of groceries nowadays, it can be difficult to justify buying something new, especially if you have previously brought home items that didn't meet your expectations. However, it may be worth it if you are willing to eat it, no matter how it tastes. But it’s better when somebody does an unbiased review so that we don't have to learn the hard way.

Lucky for us, that's what these moms did, and the next time we hit Trader Joe's, we will know just what to buy. Listen to what they had to say in this video from July 11:

I appreciate that Madaline and Amy (@ mad_about_food ) tried these foods, so we don't have to. Even though Trader Joe's has endless terrific products, they are occasionally bound to have a few fails. Now, we know how to avoid them.

    1. Pad See Ew . The single-serve meal is made with tofu, which was microwaved for heating. Their faces don't hold back, and they describe it as rubbery with a fake garlic flavor. Even the broccolini, which initially looked promising, turned out to be exceptionally bitter.

    2. Bubble Waffles . She tells us that these were prepared using the air fryer, and the bubbles are supposed to be soft like Mochi ’s. Both moms report that they are delicious, a little like funnel cake. I’ll need to give those a try!

    3. Panzerotti Pizza Bites. When they picked them up, they knew they would not be good. After tasting them, they were not impressed by the crust or the filling.

    4. Mini Shrimp Bao Buns. Although they were expecting a single piece of shrimp, they discovered it was more of a shrimp patty. They were split here, with Madeline confirming it was a no and Amy telling us, "It's not bad.”

    5. Vegetable Soup Dumplings. I had high hopes for these, but their faces said it all, and they announced, "Very bad.” That is unfortunate to hear.

    6. Hold the Cone Tips. These little treats are made to taste like the chocolatey bottoms of our favorite premade ice cream cones. Unfortunately, the chocolate was overpowering, and the cones needed to be softer.

    7. Blueberry Elderflower Drink . Amy shakes her head no before she even tries it, but it's not as floral as she was expecting. Madeline also confirms that it's a lot better than she thought it would be. They were also divided on the guava beverage, but Madeline reports that it was also better than she expected.

    8. Peanut Butter Pillows . They are both fans of this candy and describe it as similar to peanut brittle. However, it's also likely to get stuck in your teeth, which sounds exactly like classic peanut brittle , which I remember.

    9. Passionfruit Granola . If you like sweet and tart foods, this cereal, with lots of dried raspberries, sounds like the ideal way to begin the day.

    10. Strawberry Yogurt Almonds . For these, they describe liking the little hit of strawberry at the end, but overall, they didn't appear to be impressed.

    11. Peaches and Cream Cream Cheese . Unfortunately, they chose a veggie cracker to put it on, which was not ideal. Ha! Otherwise, they enjoyed the flavor. With peach season coming up, there's so much we could use this on. Peach crumble muffins would be my ideal choice.

    12. Brown Butter Salted Caramel Biscotti. These were a winner! Madeline thinks they're Trader Joe's best biscotti flavor to date. The peach cream cheese may have been delightful spread on these.

Next time we go to Trader Joe's, we will know what to put in the car and what to leave behind. I'm looking forward to going home with the biscotti.
