Rory Feek Reveals How His Daughter Gave Her Impromptu Blessing for Him To Get Remarried 8 Years After Wife’s Death

While writing for stars like Blake Shelton, Tracy Byrd, and Clay Walker, Rory Feek showcased his own love for country music when he teamed up with his wife, Joey Feek, to create the duo Joey + Rory. Together, they released songs like “Cheater, Cheater.” Although happy about their careers and lives, tragedy struck when Joey passed away in 2016 after battling cancer. With the couple sharing a daughter, Feek spent years being a single father, but that all changed when he met Rebecca. While taking it slow, the pair recently married. And with his daughter thrilled, Rory recalled how it all happened thanks to her.

Although not looking for love when his wife passed, life had other plans for Rory when Rebecca started working at the schoolhouse on his property. Helping teach his daughter, Indy Feek, who has Down syndrome, the pair struck up a relationship. Getting married on July 14, Rory shocked both Indy and Rebecca when he decided to perform a new song titled, “I Do.” Although loving the performance, the singer explained how his favorite moment was a simple picture of his daughter and bride—which he shared in a blog post.

Rory Feek Remembers When His Daughter Gave Her Blessing

Not knowing Indy’s reaction to the news, Rory revealed the entire journey in a blog post. While loving Rebecca, both wanted to ease Indy into it. But according to Rory, “One morning in late March when Rebecca came to the farmhouse to take Indy to school we all said a little prayer together to start the day, and then they headed out the door as they usually do. But a few moments later, they came back in the kitchen and Rebecca said, ‘Rory, Indiana just asked me something that I think you need to hear.’ I asked Indy, and she told me that she said, ‘Ms Rebecca, I think you should marry Papa…’”

And if that didn’t melt Rory’s heart, his daughter added, “And then Indy looked at me and said ‘and I told Miss Rebecca that my Mama’s been gone a long time. And if she marries you, maybe she could be my new mother…’”.

With Indy’s blessing, Rory ended his blog post, insisting, “We became a family.”
