LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. ( WHNT ) – Local organizations came together over the weekend for ‘One Day of Hope’ in Lincoln County.

Tents lined the county fairgrounds with local services for neighbors of all ages. One Day of Hope LC Coordinator Tina Hudson says the community has pulled together to expand its reach this year.

“God’s just been very faithful at partnering other people with us to be able to grow the event even more from year to year,” said Hudson.

For its third year, One Day of Hope LC brought a collection of local businesses, organizations, and churches together to offer free resources. Backpacks, medical checks, hair cuts, dental services and more could all be found in one location Saturday morning. Hudson says hope can bring people together.

“It’s just a way to offer hope that there is hope in Jesus and we’re here to just love on the community. The second commandment other than love your God was love your neighbor and show love. You know, love truly can change the world and that’s what we’re about today.”

Throughout the day students could receive free backpacks and lunch boxes packed with school supplies. Lincoln Health and Huntsville Hospital provided free health screenings. And kids could get a new look and pair of shoes before walking into the classroom this year.

More than 700 people benefited from the day’s event, spreading hope from the youngest to the oldest. Reginald Rice works in Lincoln County. He tells News 19 events like this are needed to lighten the financial burden a lot of families are facing.

“It’s a great opportunity for the economy within this community,” said Rice. “With the situations that are going on with some people being entitled and able to do these things and some people not being able to afford it for their kids…it’s a great positive note for the community saying, hey the community still cares.”
