JACKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — First responders in Jackson County were called out to two different crashes Saturday that left at least five people injured.

According to Jackson County EMS, the first crash was reported at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, on South Grundy Quarles Highway near Pap Johnson Circle.

EMS officials said four vehicles were involved in the crash and a total of six people were evaluated at the scene, adding that four were taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for treatment. The extent of their injuries are unknown.

According to a crash report provided by Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), a 2014 Nissan sedan was traveling north on the highway and rear-ended a 2016 Kia Soul, which caused it to collide with a 2020 Honda Pilot in the opposite lane.

THP said the 18-year-old driver of the Nissan, the 17-year-old passenger in the Nissan, the 53-year-old driver of the Kia, and the 56-year-old passenger in the Honda were all injured, but the 56-year-old driver of the Honda wasn’t. All of these motorists were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident.

Then, around 10:30 p.m., first responders were sent to South Grundy Quarles Highway near the intersection of the Gainesboro Grade after a crash was reportedly witnessed by a Jackson County deputy sheriff.

A boy was trapped inside the vehicle, which was on fire, per Jackson County EMS. With the help of a passerby, officials said the deputy was able to extinguish the fire and provide care to the driver.

Officials said each crash is under investigation by THP. Additional details were not immediately released.
