Former President Donald Trump’s favorability has skyrocketed 9 points in less than two months — according to a brand new poll. But despite reaching a four-year high in the survey, the former president is still only popular with 4 out of 10 Americans.

In a poll published by ABC News/Ipsos on Sunday, 40 percent of Americans said they have a favorable impression of Donald Trump. That’s an increase of 9 points from June 2 — the last time the ABC/Ipsos survey was taken. (That poll was conducted immediately after Trump’s criminal trial conviction in New York.) Despite the surge, 51 percent of respondents said they have an unfavorable impression of the former president.

While Trump’s numbers remain underwater, they still represent a significant change in what has been an utterly dismal poll for him in recent years. At no point in the last year was Trump above 31 percent favorability, and last April, he was down to 25 percent overall.

And Trump now has a decided favorability edge over President Joe Biden . Just 32 percent of Americans have a favorable impression of the incumbent — with 55 percent having an unfavorable view.

Notably, Trump’s running mate — Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) — has some work to do with the public. A mere 25 percent of Americans have a favorable view of the vice presidential nominee — although 43 percent do not currently have an opinion.
