For the second day in a row, there will be no Northstar rail service to Target Field thanks to a freight train derailment northeast of the Twin Cities .

The derailment involved a BNSF train, with 15 cars leaving the track near Big Lake in Sherburne County around 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning. Local traffic was disrupted, as was regional rail traffic as cleanup efforts got underway.

That included Metro Transit's Northstar line, with service to Saturday's Twins game suspended . In an update the following morning, Metro Transit announced that the Northstar would again be unavailable for Sunday's Twins game, with no replacement bus service provided:

Metro Transit says it will give another update on the Northstar "no later than 8 p.m. Sunday."

BNSF cars that derailed Saturday were carrying "consumer goods," per the Sherbune County sheriff, and there is no wider threat to the public. Nobody was injured in the derailment.

"Crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to clear the area, including reopening affected roadway crossings," the sheriff's office said.
