    Father and daughter dead after stroller rolled onto tracks in front of train

    A two-year-old girl and her father died after the child's pram rolled onto train tracks and the father jumped in front of a train in an attempt to save her.

    The minutes before the family's outing turned tragic were caught on camera by CCTV when their twin daughters' pram rolled onto railroad tracks .

    The twin girls' stroller, with both children in it, rolled onto tracks at Carlton Railway Station in Sydney, Australia , around 12.25pm on Sunday. The girl's father jumped onto the tracks to bring them to safety but was were hit by a train.

    The father and one girl died at the scene. The girl's twin sister was rescued by police. Their mother, 39, was unharmed. New South Wales Police commended the father's "heroic and brave" act.

    NSW Premier Chris Minns said: “Two to three minutes after a triple-0 call was made, NSW Police were on scene and were able to grab one of the survivors, a young girl, a two-year-old, from the scene and keep her safe and out of harm’s way.

    Speaking at St George Police Station in Kogarah, he added: “This is a terrible terrible tragedy … obviously this is a very confronting and sad day for the St George community and obviously for that family from the Kogarah area.”

    Shortly before the tragedy, the family was seen on CCTV. The woman pulled a trolley bag and the father is pushed the stroller as they walk casually along the sidewalk. The mother is spotted waiting to cross the street after pausing to look around a grocery store.

    They crossed the street and went to an elevator that led to the train platform. The father works in Sydney and the family moved to Australia from India in October of last year. According to 9 News, the family has received support from the Indian community in the area.

    Minns said: “The father died from an extraordinary instinctive act of bravery, that’s not going to bring him or his little daughter back but it shouldn’t go unremarked upon that in the face of a terrible terrible accident he gave his own life to try to save his children."

    Witnesses saw the stroller roll beneath the route of a train and phoned the police . When they came, they found the pram and heard sobbing.

    " Police and other emergency services responded quickly and saw the pram under the train; they could hear crying from underneath the train," St George Police Area Commander Detective Superintendent Paul Dunstan stated. " Police then climbed under the train to save one of the children, who was happily unharmed, and reunited her with her mother.
