The classic movie When Harry Met Sally came out 35 years ago, setting the bar high for all romcoms to follow, but it has been revealed that the film almost had a completely different ending .

In an interview with CNN's Chris Wallace , the beloved film's director and co-writer Rob Reiner shared that the script he and the late Nora Ephron wrote originally gave Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) a sadder ending. "You want to know something interesting about that? The original ending of the film that we had was that Harry and Sally didn't get together," the director shared.

"I had been married for 10 years. I'd been single for 10 years, and I couldn't figure out how I was ever going to be with anybody, and that gave birth to When Harry Met Sally," Rob added. "I hadn't met anybody so it was going to be the two of them seeing each other after years, talking and then walking away from each other."

“I met my wife Michele, who I’ve been married to now 35 years. I met her while we were making the film, and I changed the ending,” he continued. When asked if fans owe Michele for that emotional finale, Rob said, “That’s right.”

At the party, he drops one of the movie's most iconic and quoted lines, saying: “I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” The pair then share a kiss and at the end, it's revealed that they tied the knot three months later and live happily ever after.
