Scottie Scheffler likely ended his chance at winning the 2024 British Open on the ninth hole during Sunday’s final round.

Sitting at 4-under and two shots back of the lead at the time in a tie for fifth, the two-time Masters champion had a par putt from about 6 ½ feet from the cup, but he three-putted for a double bogey to fall back to 2-under.

The 28-year-old missed the first putt to the left, and he then lipped out on a putt from less than three feet away.

The NBC broadcast showed Scheffler disgusted with himself after the hole, holding his eyes closed.

He quickly found himself five shots back of the lead after Thriston Lawrence pulled ahead of the pack at 7-under midway through the final round.

Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele, the reigning PGA Championship winner, were tied at 6-under through 11 holes.
