I just did the Miami Dolphins Training Camp preview post the other day. The edge rushers appeared to be a strength of the team heading into the season. The Dolphins inked Shaq Barrett to a contract this offseason. They will get zero games out of him after he informed the team he’s retiring.

The former Colorado State product wrote a lengthy post on social media regarding his decision:

“It’s time for me to hang it up. It’s been a great ride, and I appreciate everything that came with it over the years,” Barrett said on Instagram . “I’m ready to shift my full focus to my wife and kids and helping them realize their dreams and catch them.”

Barrett , 31, signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Dolphins during free agency. You can laugh at the embed now… It turns out the Bucs moved on at the perfect time, huh.

Shaq Barrett: Buccaneers will be ‘mad they let me go’

Still, it will go down as a wildly productive career for the former undrafted pass rusher. Barrett finishes his NFL career with 59 sacks. His best year came with Tampa after reeling in 19.5 sacks to lead the league. Barrett also ends his career with a Super Bowl ring during the run with Tom Brady.

Where does Miami go from here? I’m not sure they have to go anywhere. They still have Jaelen Phillips, Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, and Mohamed Kamara. The latter being also from Colorado State. Maybe Emmanuel Ogbah will return to the fold now that Barrett is gone.
