Nicole Kidman makes rare comment about Tom Cruise more than 20 years after emotional divorce

Nicole Kidman has opened up about her relationship with her ex-husband Tom Cruise , 23 years after their bitter divorce .

The couple, who were married for 11 years and share two children, rarely discuss their time together . However, Nicole spoke out about her former romance while reflecting on Stanley Kubrick's 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut, in which both she and Tom starred .

She shared insights into the preparation process for the film, revealing that she, Tom, and Stanley spent considerable time together before filming began. "When Tom and I first started with Stanley, it was at his home, and we didn't even go over to the sets at Pinewood [Studios]," she reminisced.

The actress further told The Los Angeles Times : "Six, eight weeks passed, and we're wondering, 'Are we ever going to start?' And we just wouldn't start. We were getting comfortable with each other, comfortable enough to throw out ideas."

Eyes Wide Shut is notorious for its lengthy filming period of nearly two years. Nicole disclosed that she and Tom lived together in a studio on set throughout this time.

"We had a home 10 minutes away, but we lived in that trailer," she explained. "Tom and I shared it because Stanley would say, 'You're not each getting a trailer. We can't afford it'."

In the film, the married lead characters, played by then-married couple Tom and Nicole spend a great deal of time flirting, talking about sex, talking about cheating, and then finding themselves doing both.

Quizzed on if Kubrick took inspiration from her and Tom's real-life connection for the film, Nicole disclosed: "I suppose he was mining it. There were ideas he was interested in. He'd ask a lot of questions."

Nicole and Tom officially divorced in 2001 after tying the knot back in 1990.The former couple share two children, Isabella, 30, and Connor, 28. Nicole found love again with Keith Urban in 2006, welcoming two more daughters, Rose, 14, and Faith, 12.

Tom meanwhile married Katie Holmes in 2006, but the relationship ended in 2012. Their daughter, Suri, now 18, doesn't have a relationship with her father, reportedly due to his Scientology ties. She recently ditched her dad's surname, choosing to go by Suri Noelle, which is Katie's middle name.
