NFL analyst sees dominant college edge rusher being best fit for Cardinals

The past couple of seasons have seen the Arizona Cardinals make a real effort to improve the talent on their offense. They’ve completely revamped the offensive line in front of franchise quarterback Kyler Murray to keep him healthy and upright. Offensive weapons Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison, Jr. have been drafted to give Murray the tools he needs on the outside. Now it’s time for the Cardinals to focus on the other side of the ball and improve the talent on their defense.

That’s exactly what Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski has them doing with his latest “best fits” article . Sobleski chose one 2025 NFL Draft prospect as a ‘best fit’ for each team, and for the Cardinals he has them paired up with Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams.

Williams would bring some juice to a talented, but underperforming, group of edge rushers for the Cardinals. Arizona’s defense desperately needs to put more pressure on opposing defenses. They finished last season second-to-last in both QB pressures and pressure rate, and finished 30th in the league in sacks.

Williams will be heading into his third season with the Bulldogs and has been a solid contributor for head coach Kirby Smart’s defense. Williams has put up 4.5 sacks in each of his first two years in Athens, but the pick would be as much about his future projection as it is his current production. Williams brings great size at 6’5” 265 pounds and is an explosive pass-rusher, traits highly desirable at the next level. He still has plenty of room to grow before he realizes his full potential, but if he gets there he’ll be worth a high draft pick.

With the offense more-or-less set for the Cardinals heading into the 2024 season and beyond, it’s time to focus on the defense and try to make some waves in a competitive NFC West that has been dominated by the San Francisco 49ers in recent years.
