Alex Soros, son of Democratic Party megadonor George Soros , endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be President Joe Biden 's replacement at the top of the Democratic ticket, after the president dropped out of the race.

Soros is chair of Open Society Foundations, one of the top left-leaning grantmaking networks in the country which was founded by his father George, and has helmed the left-wing dark money group since his father handed over the reins last year. He had called on Democrats to stop the infighting over Biden's candidacy, while the president faced pressure to step aside. Now that Biden has dropped out and endorsed Harris , Soros called on Democrats to unite behind the vice president.

It’s time for us all to unite around Kamala Harris and beat Donald Trump. She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream! 🇺🇸 🗽 #Harris2024 pic.twitter.com/KG09YnWHZK

"It’s time for us all to unite around Kamala Harris and beat Donald Trump. She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream!" Soros said in a post on X, including a photo of himself with Harris.

Soros also praised Biden in a separate post by saying the president had "done more in four years than most could dream to accomplish in eight."

"I write this with a heavy heart. Joe Biden is a patriot, a man who has always worked to unite America and stand for the dignity and well being of all Americans. He has done more in four years than most could dream to accomplish in eight. He will be remembered as an American hero because he is. Thank you @potus for your service," Soros said .

While Biden and prominent Democrats – such as former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton – have endorsed Harris, others – including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama – have yet to endorse the vice president to be the Democratic nominee.

Biden is the first incumbent to not seek a second term since then-President Lyndon Baines Johnson did so in 1968. After Johnson decided against running for a second term, his vice president, Hubert Humphrey, was the Democratic nominee, but lost to former Vice President Richard Nixon .

The uncertainty with the Democratic Party’s ticket comes less than a month before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The DNC is scheduled for Aug. 19-22.
