Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies

The major injuries keep on coming for the Atlanta Braves.

The team announced on Sunday evening that second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a fractured wrist in its 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals and that he is expected to miss at least eight weeks. That will sideline him for most of the remaining games in the regular season.

Albies was injured in the ninth inning during a play a second base when his wrist got caught up in a collision with Cardinals base-runner Michael Siani.

Here is a look at the play.

Albies was having a bit of a down year by his standards, but this is still a huge loss for a banged up Braves lineup which had already been playing without outfielders Michael Harris II and Ronald Acuna Jr., the latter of whom is expected to miss the remainder of the season and playoffs due to a torn ACL.

The injuries have not just been limited to the club's starting lineup, either, as ace starter Spencer Strider is also out for the season after undergoing elbow surgery.

Despite all of the injuries the Braves are still solidly in a playoff position in the National League, but will probably need to add some help at the trade deadline if they are going to have a chance to make some noise in October given their injury attrition.

Albies hit 33 home runs and drove in 109 runs across 148 games for the Braves a year ago. Through his first 90 games this season, the slugger has eight home runs and 46 RBI with a .717 OPS.
