CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — You might not want to hear it, but autumn is right around the corner. As a sign of times, one of Champaign’s oldest apple orchards officially opened this weekend.

Curtis Orchard celebrated their 45th straight year of being open. Right now, they offer a new menu of apples each week, local produce, and — of course — cider and donuts.

Co-Owner Randy Graham said the first day is always a busy one.

“Overall, it’s been a good year for opening, and it’s a very unusual year actually, because we had an early spring. So, the apples are coming on early,” he said. “So, this is the first time that I can remember that we’ve opened with U-Pick apples on the first day.”

The pumpkin patch will open in mid-September. The orchard itself will operate through December.
