Former President Donald Trump called for the Republican Party to be reimbursed for funds spent campaigning against President Joe Biden Sunday evening after accusing Democrats of “fraud” after the president dropped out of the race.

Biden announced on Sunday afternoon that he would not seek a second term in office three weeks after his disastrous debate performance against Trump in Georgia. The post-debate news cycles and criticism from within his own party apparently forced Biden out of the race.

He did not offer any specific reason for dropping out and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris , other than to say, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”

Trump spent Sunday launching attacks at Biden, complaining about debates , and otherwise commenting from his Truth Social account.

In one post , Trump accused the Democratic Party of perpetuating a “fraud” on voters and demanded that his party be “reimbursed” for campaigning against the president. Trump wrote:

So, we are forced to spend time and money on fighting Crooked Joe Biden, he polls badly after having a terrible debate, and quits the race. Now we have to start all over again. Shouldn’t the Republican Party be reimbursed for fraud in that everybody around Joe, including his doctors and the Fake News Media, knew he was not capable of running for, or being, President? Just askin’?

Harris issued a statement Sunday in which she said she intended to earn her party’s nomination.

She is reportedly currently considering a number of popular Democrats as potential running mates, including Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear , Democratic North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper , and Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro .
