American gymnast Sunisa Lee is heading to Paris as one of five members of the 2024 United States Olympic Team — joining Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Hezly Rivera.

Lee earned gold, silver and bronze medals during her Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games. In 2023, the 2020 Olympic All-Around champion was diagnosed with an incurable kidney disease.

Despite this health setback, Lee battled to earn a spot on this year's Olympic team.

Lee recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Forbes to discuss her journey. During this conversation, she provided an encouraging update regarding her health heading into the 2024 Paris Games.

"I still take every day as it comes," Lee said. "Some days I wake up, and I have to deal with how I'm feeling that day. For Paris, it's always the same: nothing more, nothing less.”

Being a gymnast means that your body has to cooperate with you," Lee said earlier in the interview. "The nature of my illness is that I never know what each new day holds. There were so many times when I wanted to quit because I thought my health wouldn’t allow me to do this again. But I kept my eyes on Paris and took each day as it came. Some days were battles, and some days I felt like the old me.

"I've fought so hard for this, and I hope I can inspire others going through tough situations.”

Lee and the U.S. Olympic Team will begin with Women's Qualifications on July 28.
