LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — With less than a month away from the new school year the Southern Nevada Health District is reminding parents to ensure their children are vaccinated before the school year starts.

The state of Nevada requires students entering kindergarten, seventh, and 12th grades to receive specific vaccinations before heading into the classroom.

Students enrolled in kindergarten must receive tetanus, measles, mumps and rubella, chicken pox, and polio vaccines. Students entering the seventh grade must have their meningitis vaccine and tetanus booster and 12th graders need a meningitis booster. There are exemptions for students who are immunocompromised.

SNHD is additionally helping parents beat the back-to-school rush with valley-wide immunization clinics.

“We are able to go out into the community and immunize people that are missing those immunizations and help prevent and protect the spread of these types of vaccine-preventable diseases,” community health nurse Daliah Kosmicki at SNHD said. “Protecting your child and also protecting others is really important.”

SNHD immunization clinics are currently open until August. Although not required, families are encouraged to make an appointment before visiting the clinic.

At the appointment, children’s vaccine records are necessary. Parents unable to find these records should reach out to their health provider. Children immunized in Nevada parents can access their vaccination records through Nevada WebIZ , a statewide immunization registry. They can also call Nevada WebIZ at (775) 684-5954 for assistance.

Immunizations at the CCSD Family Support Center will be provided at no cost. The CCSD Family Support Center is located at 1720 S. Maryland Pkwy., Las Vegas, NV 89104. The vaccination schedule is July 10, 17, 24, and 31, 8 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

To make an appointment, call (702) 759-0850 or visit the Southern Nevada Health District .
