    TRAFFIC ALERT: Fire closes part of I-80 in Summit County

    SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A fire in Summit County on Sunday evening caused lane closures on I-80, and some drivers were encouraged to use I-84 as an alternate route, according to the Utah Department of Transportation .

    Traffic was initially affected in both directions on I-80 at mile marker 170 near Coalville, but officials later limited the closure to the left lane in the westbound direction. The fire first began affecting traffic just before 6:15 p.m., according to the UDOT Traffic website .

    An alert on the UDOT website informed drivers about the closures in place on I-80 Sunday evening.

    “The left lane of WB I-80 is closed at MP 170, at Echo Junction, through MP 164, in Coalville, due to a fire affecting the road. Unknown estimate for clearance.,” the advisory said.

    According to the Utah Wildfire Dashboard , the fire was discovered at 6:37 p.m. on Sunday and was estimated to be a size of three acres. Officials did not immediately provide information about what caused the fire.

    The UDOT website indicated the roadway would reopen at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday. This story will be updated with the latest estimated clearance time.
