It’s been several episodes since a major character died on House of the Dragon , but the sixth installment of Season 2 hinted at considerable carnage to come. After Rhaenyra and Jacaerys hatched their plan to find new dragonriders, Ser Steffon Darklyn became the first guinea pig — and he soon perished in a jet of flame shot from Seasmoke’s throat.

As George R.R. Martin fans know, however, Ser Steffon isn’t the only person to try (and fail) to ride a dragon in Fire & Blood . Before Rhaenyra finds the four people who actually can ride dragons, many more would-be beastmasters will die trying to tame Silverwing, Vermithor, and the like. Until the next battle between the Greens and the Blacks, these characters are the most likely candidates for death in the next episode.

    Gormon Massey

Gormon, played by James Dreyfus , is one of those guys who’s always present in Rhaenyra’s council meetings, and you don’t quite know who he is but you know everybody trusts him. So far, Rhaenyra hasn’t asked him to ride a dragon, but in the book, he tries to mount Vermithor, and — spoiler alert — gets burned alive immediately. If he makes the same attempt on the show, it seems likely that he’ll suffer the same fate.

    Silver Denys

In the book, Silver Denys claims to be a descendant of Maegor the Cruel and takes a stab at dragon riding during the Sowing. He hasn’t yet appeared on the show, but actor Robert Rhodes has reportedly been cast as the character. Like Gormon, however, Silver Denys doesn’t succeed in his attempt to mount a dragon. He gets devoured by a wild dragon named Cannibal after trying to mount another wild dragon, Sheepstealer. Neither Cannibal nor Sheepstealer have been on the show either, but at least one of them might be dropping in soon: In episode 6, Rhaena discovered that there seems to be a wild dragon wreaking havoc in the Vale.
