    Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Y-D wins battle of division leaders over Cotuit

    In a battle of the two Cape Cod Baseball League division leaders, the East's Y-D Red Sox (18-9) defeated the West's Cotuit Kettleers (19-10) 6-3 in eight innings at Lowell Park on Sunday.

    UCLA's Phoenix Call had three hits (one RBI, one scored run), while South California's Ethan Petry (one double, one run) and South California's Talmadge LeCroy (one run) contributed two hits for Y-D. Nevada-Reno's Michael Ball (two RBIs, one run) hit a first inning home run, while Saum (one RBI) added a double.

    Ryan Sprock (Elon) remained unbeaten (3-0) on the mound as he pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed one run, walked on and struck out four. Trevor Moore (Stanford) recorded the save as he went 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit, no walks, and struck out two.

    Arizona State's Brandon Compton (one run) and California's Jarren Advincula (one RBI) each had two hits, while Indiana's Tyler Cerny (one RBI) and Dallas Baptist's Grant Jay (two RBIs) each chipped in one double for Cotuit. Starter Tyler O'Neill (Bucknell) threw 2 2/3 innings, allowed six hits (one home run), four runs (three earned), walked one and struck out two.

    In other Cape League action:

    Chatham Anglers 7, Brewster Whitecaps 3

    Ashton Larson (LSU) led the way for the Anglers (16-14) win over the Whitecaps (12-17) as he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and one double. Garrett Helsel (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville) picked up his first win of the season on the mound as he went 6 1/3 innings, scattered four hits, gave up three runs, walked two and struck out 10. Hayden Murphy (Auburn) had the save over 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out four.

    Dallas Macias (Oregon State) was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Daniel Cuvet (Miami) scored twice for Brewster. Starter Will Ray (Wake Forest) went two innings, allowed four hits, gave up five runs, and walked one with no strikeouts.

    Orleans Firebirds 5, Harwich Mariners 4

    The hottest team in the Cape League increased their win streak to four as the Firebirds (11-19) beat the Mariners (10-20) in 10 innings. Austin Smith (San Diego) grounded into a double play at the top of the 10th that scored the winning run from Landon Moran (Stetson).

    Gonzaga's Hudson Shupe (one RBI), San Diego's Austin Smith (one run) and Stetson's Lorenzo Meola (one double) each had two hits for Orleans. Tucker Biven (Louisville) collected his second win on the mound as he threw 2 2/3 hitless innings, gave up one run (none earned), walked four and struck out three. Saul Soto (New Mexico State) picked up the save as he pitched one scoreless and hitless inning, walked none, and struck out two.

    Northeastern's Cam Maldonado (one home run, one RBI, one run) and Luke Heyman (Florida) each collected two hits at the plate, while Duke's Macon Winslow (one RBI) added one double for Harwich. Jack Bowery (Northeastern) lost on the mound as he went one hitless inning, and gave up one run (none earned).

    Bourne Braves 3, Hyannis Harbor Hawks 1

    J.D. Thompson (Vanderbilt) recorded his second win on the mound as he went five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, gave up one walk, and struck out four for Bourne (13-15). John Abraham (Florida State) picked up the save as he went one scoreless and hitless inning, walked none and struck out one. Chase Meggers (Oregon) led the way with three of the team's six hits, added one triple and chipped in one RBI.

    Eric Snow (South Florida) had the lone RBI, while Kane Kepley (Liberty) had the lone run for Hyannis (17-12), who went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Paul Schmitz (Houston) had the loss on the mound after he threw one innings, allowed two hits, three runs, four walks and struck out one.

    Falmouth Commodores 7, Wareham Gatemen 2

    Gavin Kilen (Louisville) hit a home run, a double and had three scored runs and two RBIs for Falmouth (11-18), while Oklahoma's Scott Mudler (three RBIs) and Isaiah Barkett (two hits, two RBIs) each added one double. Jaden Noot (Louisiana State) remained undefeated (2-0) as he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings, walked none, and struck out one.

    Sam White (West Virginia) led the way (18-11) with two of the Gatemen's six hits and had one RBI. Wareham went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Sam Mettert (St John's) lost his first game on the mound as he threw 1 1/3 hitless innings, allowed three runs, walked three and struck out two.
