EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Local party leaders and political analysts are continuing to weigh in on President Biden’s announcement that he is dropping out of the presidential race.

The Democratic Party of Luzerne County says they will support Vice President Harris if she earns her party’s nomination.

Party leaders believe a new nominee could energize their voters.

“We absolutely have I think maybe an energized base now. We could put a lot of this behind us. The last couple weeks we’ve spent saying well is this going to happen should this happen and now we know,” said Democratic Party of Luzerne County Chairman Thomas Shubilla.

The Republican Party of Luzerne County says they believe this is not a positive for the Democratic Party.

PA politicians comment after Biden’s withdrawal from presidential race

“If I was a Democrat right now, I would feel very undermined. And that’s the word I keep coming back to. The voice of the common voter they literally wanted they picked Joe Biden and now elitists in that group have pushed him aside,” said Republican Party of Luzerne County Chairman Chris Huntzinger.

“Well, the president’s gonna give a speech at the end of the week and I think he has to outline his record. Then the next thing they have to do is pick a vice presidential nominee for presidential nominee Harris. That’s what they have to do next, and then they have to go to the convention and have a united front,” Political Analyst David Yonki said.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is one of the names being mentioned as a possible Democratic Vice President Candidate. Governor Shapiro has endorsed Vice President Harris.
