Michael Phelps won his last gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016, but still has the utmost confidence in his swimming abilities.

According to Phelps, he doesn't swim much at all now, saying on the popular Pat McAfee Show that he does "only if (his head) is in a dark place."

Phelps, now the same age as U.S. Olympian LeBron James at 39 years old, told McAfee that he is not currently considering a comeback as it would take too much time away from his family.

Phelps has not been training but still does not lack for confidence. He said he thinks he could win one prestigious Olympic swimming event if given time to train.

"I think it would take four years to do," Phelps said to McAfee. "I think I could win the 200 (Individual Medley)," which is a race comprised of the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle races that all must be completed in order.

"I was going faster eight years ago than most of the world is going now," the former University of Michigan swimming star and U.S. Olympic legend said.
