At the very least, flyweight Nathan Maness wants an explanation if his contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship isn’t renewed.

Maness completed his UFC contract with a unanimous decision win over Jimmy Flick
last month. While “Mayhem” was expecting to hear from the UFC about a renewal, there has been radio silence since then.

“Honestly, we haven’t really heard anything,” Maness told MMAjunkie.com . “We sent out a couple of different messages. We gave them a couple of weeks after the fight and then we sent out a couple feelers, but we can’t even really get a response. Your guess is as good as mine.”

UFC 304: Edwards vs. Muhammad Saturday at 10 ET on ESPN+. Order Now!

Maness’ win over Flick put him on a two-fight winning streak, improving his overall promotional record to 5-2. Maness’ only two losses in the UFC have come against elite Dagestani prospects Tagir Ulanbekov
and Umar Nurmagomedov . While Maness believes he has done enough to get re-signed by the UFC, the exclusive negotiationg period has already expired. While offers have already started to come in from other promotions, Maness will wait in hope to hear the UFC’s pitch.

“I feel like I’ve done my part to earn my spot,” he said. “We never really got a reason why. I’m 5-2 with three finishes. I fought some pretty tough guys. I’d like to be in the UFC. If not, I’d at least like a reason why I wasn’t re-signed. Other than that, I hope to continue fighting. We’ve gotten some offers in already. So, I’m just stepping back and seeing what comes around and continuing on, I guess.”

Even if this is the end of his journey with the UFC, Maness would at least like to know where he went wrong.

“I’d just like a reason. I feel like that’s just good business,” he said. “There was nothing on our part where we ever said anything bad about the UFC. We didn’t post anything that we weren’t supposed to. We took everything they threw at us. I’d just like a reason. What can I do better? Is it who I’m fighting? Is it who I am? Just anything like that. So I hope they hear us and I hope they reach out, even if they don’t want me. That would just bring a little ease to the situation. That would probably be the only thing.”
