Tributes have been paid to a “intelligent, caring, and loving soul” who was shot in broad daylight in south London.

Jesse Lloyd-Smith, 20, was shot in East Surrey Grove, Peckham , shortly before 5pm on July 10.

Emergency services attended the scene and Jesse was taken to hospital. However, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he died the following day.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to “allow the family time to grieve away from home, where this tragic incident happened and not have to worry about returning to work so soon during this heartbreaking time.”The fundraiser explained that Jesse’s death “has left a huge hole in his family and friends lives”.Michelle Newman, the fundraiser’s organiser, wrote: “All those that know Jesse, will know that he was the most incredible, intelligent, caring, and loving soul who lit up every room he entered.

“His kindness, thoughtfulness, and compassion touched everyone around him and he did not deserve to have his life cut short so abruptly, in such a tragic way.”

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our investigation into Jesse’s murder continues at pace as we piece together the events leading up to, and following, the shooting.

The DCI added: “I am grateful to all those who have come forward so far but would ask anyone with information – no matter how insignificant you think it might be – to get in contact as this could prove to be crucial.

“The impact gun crime has on communities is horrific; it instills fear and distrust. I understand it can be difficult for some people to speak to police but I would urge you to do the right thing.

“Jesse’s family are devastated and need to know who was responsible for his murder. If you can help, please do so – if you don’t want to speak directly to police, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously.”

There has been no arrest and inquiries continue.

Police said Mr Lloyd-Smith’s family are being supported by specially trained officers as the investigation continues.
