MASON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a kayaker drowned in a lake in Cass County Sunday night.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, it received a report of a man who had fallen out of a kayak in Juno Lake in Mason Township, near the Indiana border.

Investigators said the man was fishing in the kayak when he fell out and was unable to swim. Authorities were able to find the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office. His name has not been released.

The sheriff’s office said the man was not wearing a life jacket, and alcohol may have been a factor.
