SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The South Bend community bids a heartfelt farewell to Officer Anthony Pearson as he steps into retirement after more than 20 years of dedicated service with the South Bend Police Department.

Officer Pearson's career has been marked by a profound commitment to community engagement, particularly through his work with the Police Athletic League (PAL). This program, which offers year-round support to local youth via boxing and summer camps, has been enriched by Pearson's unwavering dedication.

“Officer Pearson has been a cornerstone of our Police Athletic League, helping countless kids find purpose and discipline,” noted South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski. “His impact on the community, especially through boxing, is something we’ll continue to cherish.”

Many will remember Officer Pearson not only for his role in PAL but also as a familiar face in schools. As a school resource officer, he made regular visits to classrooms, building relationships and ensuring student safety.

Pearson's influence extended to training within the department, where his expertise and leadership were instrumental. Though he is retiring from active duty, Pearson plans to remain involved with the Police Athletic League, particularly in the boxing program. Chief Ruszkowski assured that Pearson’s legacy will continue, stating, “He still has a little identification and can come and help out with whatever we need. He’s assured us of that.”

As Officer Pearson embarks on this new chapter, the South Bend community and the South Bend Police Department extend their deepest gratitude. His dedication has left an indelible mark, and he will be missed.
