    Gov. Whitmer announces new USS Lansing Navy ship

    LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer will be on hand Monday morning for the announcement of a new U.S. Navy ship being named the USS Lansing.

    The USS Lansing will be an expeditionary fast transport ship described by the Navy as “high-speed, shallowdraft ships capable of intra-theater personnel and cargo lift for the armed services.”

    The USS Lansing is currently being built and is in the first official steps in the long commissioning process.

    In a news conference scheduled for 9:30 Monday morning, Gov. Whitmer will be joined by U.S. Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro and Lansing Mayor Andy Schor.
