King Charles' 'reluctant' four-word response when asked if he would bring Prince Harry back

Despite the Royal Family being short-staffed, it seems there's no room for Prince Harry to return. King Charles, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, had to step back from some of his public duties. The Princess of Wales is also on leave as she battles her own cancer diagnosis.

Rumors were rife that Harry, whose relationship with his father has been strained, was willing to temporarily resume Royal duties while the King is unwell. However, insiders quickly dismissed these claims, stating that Harry would not be permitted to take up a role and that the King's health condition had not changed the agreement Harry made to relinquish his Royal duties when he and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals in 2020.

Harry has often criticized the King, making several allegations against him . In Harry and Meghan's six-part Netflix series, the Duke accused his father of lying during a crucial meeting around the time he left the UK for the United States. In his contentious memoir Spare, he claimed his father prioritized his own interests over his son's, reports the Mirror .

Despite Prince Harry's outspoken stance, King Charles has largely maintained a dignified silence on the matter. However, during an outing last year, he gave a brief, unexpected response when queried about his son.

His rare comment came as the King attended the 125th-anniversary celebrations of the University of East London's Stratford campus. The event saw him engaging with members of the public, unveiling a commemorative plaque, and inaugurating a new hospital and primary care training hub.

During this official engagement, as King Charles was mingling with the crowd of students and well-wishers, he faced an impromptu plea from one individual. As he received handshakes, a man called out: "Bring back Harry please, can you please bring him back please, Sir?"

Initially, it seemed the King didn't catch whom the request concerned and asked: "Who? " After the clarification "Harry, your son", King Charles gave a poignant and reluctant four-word response: "It would be nice" before promptly continuing with his engagements.

In spite of the ups and downs in their relationship, reports suggest that there have been recent "warm exchanges" between Harry and his father following the latter's health issues, as reported by The Times. It is also understood, from a Royal insider speaking to the same publication, that Charles, at the age of 75, desires reconciliation and more contact with Prince Harry, believing that such a reunion could serve the interests of the monarchy.

In a recent interview with a US breakfast show, Harry hinted that the King's health situation could pave the way for a reconciliation with his father. The Duke expressed his love for his family and gratitude for the opportunity to spend time with his father during his brief return to the UK.

His fleeting visit to see Charles, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, sparked rumors of a potential mending of their strained relationship since Harry stepped down as a working Royal. In the interview, aired on Good Morning America last week, it was suggested that a family illness could have a "re-unifying effect".

When asked if this could be possible in their case, Harry responded: "Yeah, I'm sure." Pointing towards Invictus competitors, Harry further commented: "Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together."

Buckingham Palace has remained tight-lipped about Charles' cancer, and Harry chose not to share any details when questioned about his perspective on the King's health, stating "that stays between me and him. However, he did mention future plans to visit his father: "I've got other trips planned that would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can. "
