With the Opening Ceremony set for Friday, July 26, let's take a look at 2024 Summer Olympics odds, with an eye on countries to win the most medals, most gold medals, and the OVER/UNDER on USA's total gold medal count in Paris.

The USA is the heavy favorite to win the most gold medals and most total medals in Paris.

Odds to win most gold medals at 2024 Olympics: USA favored at Caesars Sportsbook

Here are the top contenders to win the most gold medals in Paris based on Caesars Sportsbook 's odds.

    • USA -500
    • China +300
    • France +8000
    • Japan +8000
    • Great Britain +8000
    • Australia +25000

The Americans have had a stranglehold on the most gold medals in six of the last seven Summer Games. China, which hosted the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, won the most gold medals that year.

The U.S. leads all countries with 1,070 gold medals in the history of the Summer Olympics. The Americans have won most of those (344) in the broad category of athletics. That includes track and field events, road running and race walking.

Nielsen's Gracenote Sports' Virtual Medal Table forecasts a tight race for most gold medals between the U.S. (37) and China (36). Should that prediction for the Americans prove accurate, the USA's gold medal count would fall well UNDER the posted total for the U.S. at DraftKings, which we discuss below.

BetMGM's odds on countries to win most medals at Paris Olympics

Here are the countries that rank as top contenders to win the most overall medals in Paris based on BetMGM 's odds.

    • USA -3300
    • China +1100
    • Great Britain +2800
    • France +8000
    • Japan +10000
    • Australia +12500
    • Italy +20000
    • Germany +40000

The United States has captured the most overall medals in the last seven Summer Olympics. Overall, the U.S. has collected 2,655 medals, the most of any country in the history of the Summer Games.

Nielsen's Gracenote Sports projects the Americans to win the most overall medals in Paris at 123. That would be 10 more than the U.S. won during the 2020 Tokyo Games, which were held in 2021 due to the pandemic.

All of this explains the rather prohibitive odds being offered at BetMGM. It always pays to shop around for the best odds. DraftKings is offering -2500 on America to be the top medal winner.

OVER/UNDER odds on USA's total gold medals at DraftKings

Check out DraftKings Sportsbook 's OVER/UNDER odds on the total of gold medals won by Team USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics.

    • OVER 41.5 -115
    • UNDER 41.5 -115

There's an interesting subplot at work, as American athletes (for the first time) will receive $37,500 for each gold medal they win from the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (silver medals will bring home $22,500, and bronze medals $1,500).

Getting back to this bet, here are the gold medal totals for the U.S. in the last five Summer Olympics.

    • 2020 Tokyo (39)
    • 2016 Rio de Janeiro (46)
    • 2012 London (48)
    • 2008 Beijing (36)
    • 2004 Athens (36)

Curious about the year America took home its most gold medals in the Summer Olympics? That was the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, when 14 Eastern Bloc countries including the Soviet Union boycotted the Games, and the U.S. took home 83 gold medals.
