    Victim in deadly Ashtabula plane crash identified

    HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – One person has died after a plane crash in Ashtabula County Sunday evening.

    According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the plane crash happened in Harpersfield Township near Mini Ranch Trail south of Clay Street just before 6 p.m.

    When troopers arrived at the scene, it was found that a fixed-wing single-engine aircraft had crashed east of the runway of Germack Airport, according to the release.

    According to the release, only one person, who was also the pilot, was on board at the time of the crash. The pilot died as a result of the crash.

    According to OSHP, the victim has been identified as John D. Williams, 75, of Geneva.

    According to the release, the Federal Aviation Administration will be conducting an independent investigation.
