There’s no shortage of amazing recipes that can be prepared with fruit. Unfortunately, many of these tasty options also use loads of sugar. Even though having these treats now and then isn’t a cause for concern, we don’t want to indulge in them every day.

However, if you have a sweet tooth, it can be a challenge to find healthy alternatives. But fear not. We can still have our cravings without worrying about our blood sugar levels. Discover this mom’s Paleo-friendly recipe shared on July 9:

ULTIMATE KJ PALEO PEACH CRISP 🍑 i.e., the only peach crisp recipe you need this summer This isn't your average peach crisp-the crunchy topping is a blend of almonds and walnuts, lightly sweetened and it's super crunchy and delicuous. And when mixed with the warm peaches and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, it is pure heaven! 🤗 INGREDIENTS For the Filling: 6 medium peaches can use fresh or frozen ¼ cup coconut sugar 1 tablespoon tapicoa flour can also use arrowroot flour ⅛ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon lemon juice For the Topping: ¾ cup blanched almond flour ⅓ cup maple sugar ⅓ cup refined coconut oil, solid ¾ cup raw walnuts finely chopped, can use pecans or almonds ⅓ cup unsweetened coconut flaked or shredded 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon cinnamon ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt INSTRCTIONS 1. Preheat the oven to 350° F. 2. Grease a 9-inch square pan or deep dish pie plate. Set aside. 3. Prepare the topping. 4. In a medium bowl, mix together the chopped nuts and the rest of the topping ingredients. 5. Refrigerate, then prepare the filling. 6. Cut and peel the peaches into 1/2 inch slices. 7. Add sliced peaches to a medium bowl along with filling ingredients. Toss to coat well. 8. Transfer peach mixture to the greased dish. 9. Take the topping out of the refrigerator, and spread it evenly on top of the filling. 10. Bake for 35-40 minutes. 11. Keep an eye out to make sure the top doesn't get too brown. 1. She slices and dices her peaches into bite-size pieces. Then, she adds coconut sugar and seasonings before placing them in a baking dish.

    2. She prepares a blend of almond flour, chopped walnuts, coconut oil, and seasonings for the topping. Here, she notes that we can also use pecans or more almonds instead of walnuts.

    3. Then, it’s placed in the oven to bake. She cautions that if it gets too brown, we should cover it with foil for the last few minutes of baking. That’s easy enough for me!

If you have a nut allergy and cannot consume almonds, you can swap them for coconut flour, flaxseeds, or cashew flour. Pecan or walnut meal might also be just as tasty. No matter what you try, it’s hard to imagine this being anything but delicious!

    What Is a Paleo Diet?

The Paleo diet emphasizes consuming the foods of our early ancestors and excludes modern-day processed foods. It encourages these foods to be consumed in ways as close as possible to their original state. You’ll eat meat like beef, chicken, and game on this diet. Fish like salmon, mackerel, and shellfish, along with fruits and vegetables, are also encouraged. Nuts, seeds, and healthy fats like coconut, avocado, and olive oil are also a part of this diet.

Foods to avoid include wheat, rice, oats, dairy products, potatoes, sugary snacks, and other refined and processed foods. While many tout benefits include reduced inflammation, weight loss, and improved digestion, it also has some notable drawbacks. Concerns over vitamin deficiencies like D can occur when dairy isn’t consumed, and the cost of organics and grass-fed meat, along with the limitations, can make it hard to sustain for many.

If you’ve ever considered going Paleo, this peach crisp recipe might be the perfect place to start. At the very least, it will stabilize blood sugar and satisfy our sweet tooth.
