Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Has Shockingly Low MVP Odds

Plenty of people feel Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys is a truly elite NFL quarterback. It is little wonder why, as he has consistently put up stellar numbers and led the league with 36 passing touchdowns last season while also throwing for 4,516 yards.

But the 10,000-pound elephant in the room when it comes to Prescott is his consistently poor play in the postseason.

Two things have become an annual tradition for the Cowboys: Prescott playing well beneath his standards in the playoffs and the Cowboys exiting early in the playoffs.

Perhaps that is one reason why DraftKings has Prescott listed as having the 10th-best odds to win the 2024 MVP award.

Granted, it is a regular season award, but continued stumbles in the playoffs can weigh heavily on the minds of voters.

For a minute late last season, Prescott was a frontrunner for the award. There were times when he looked remarkable and his team seemed dominant. But in Week 15, he went just 21 of 34 for 134 yards and no touchdowns in a 31-10 road loss against the Buffalo Bills. Earlier, in Week 5, he had a horrific performance in which he was 14 of 24 for 153 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions as the Cowboys were destroyed 42-10 by the San Francisco 49ers.

His continued lackluster performances when it matters most are a nagging issue that continues to eat away at him.

Will the Cowboys extend Dak Prescott?

Right now, Prescott is also mired in another problem — his fruitless contract extension talks with the Cowboys. Some insist the Cowboys have every intention of keeping him in Dallas for years to come, while others feel owner Jerry Jones will be content with letting him play out the final year of his current contract and hitting free agency next offseason.

In such a scenario, keeping Prescott could be even more expensive for a Cowboys organization that also needs to give out extensions to star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and pass rusher Micah Parsons.

Unless Prescott gets his bag sometime soon, perhaps the only thing that could ensure he will continue to call “Jerry World” home is a strong performance in the 2024-25 NFL Playoffs. But a strong performance would likely mean at least taking Dallas to the NFC Championship Game, a place it hasn’t been to since the 1995 season.

As of now, DraftKings has given Dallas the 10th-best odds of winning the Super Bowl championship and the fourth-best odds of winning the NFC.
