British Royal Family Shares Prince George’s 11th Birthday Portrait Photographed by Kate Middleton

Prince William and Kate Middleton celebrated their eldest child’s birthday on Monday. The Prince and Princess of Wales wished Prince George a happy birthday via their official social media accounts, sharing a new portrait of the young royal captured by his mother.

In the black-and-white portrait, Prince George is seen wearing a black suit with a white button-down shirt. The 11-year-old smiles at the camera, sitting against a simple white backdrop. “Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today,” Prince William’s and Middleton’s caption reads. The caption also includes a flashing camera emoji with a photo credit to the Princess of Wales and the year.

Middleton has captured the birthday portraits of her three children in the past. This year, the Princess of Wales photographed her daughter Princess Charlotte for the royal’s ninth birthday in May and Prince Louis for the royal’s sixth birthday last April.

In 2023, however, Prince George’s portrait was captured by photographer Millie Pilkington.

Over the course of the last few years, Prince George and his younger siblings have joined their parents for certain royal engagements and public outings. The last two years, all three of Prince William’s and Middleton’s children attended the Trooping the Colour ceremonies, watching the proceedings on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

More recently, Prince George joined his dad at the Union of European Football Associations European Championship between England and Spain. The British royal family members were also joined by King Felipe VI of Spain and his daughter Princess Infanta Sofía .

The Princess of Wales’ portrait for her son’s 11th birthday is a stark contrast to the photo she took of Prince George for his ninth birthday in 2022. While this photo is black-and-white and feels more formal, the 2022 portrait featured George at the beach in a polo on a trip with his family. The new image might indicate a new approach for the royal family in terms of their style and aesthetic, mimicking the black-and-white Christmas photo they shared for the holidays in 2023.
