It’s actually quite common for talented rock bands to deliver just one album before calling it quits. There are a few potential reasons for it, from feuds within the band to accepting that they won’t be able to top their only release. New York City, NY

“Ah, Citi Field… so this is where the Mets lose,” said Mark Hoppus to a crowd of laughter and boos at blink-182‘s first-ever NYC stadium show. It was a very blink-182 way to acknowledge the career milestone, and the place was unsurprisingly packed for the band, who played three consecutive NYC-area arena shows and headlined a festival in Atlantic City just one year earlier. For their stadium debuts on this run (which also hits Fenway Park on Tuesday, 7/23), blink are putting on almost the exact same show you’d see if they were still playing clubs. They took advantage of the outdoor venue’s ability to set off fireworks, had Travis Barker do his trademark elevating drum platform for a few songs, and used a few necessary pre-recorded samples for things like acoustic guitar, piano, and sound effects, but for the most part, they filled the stadium with the same scrappy punk trio setup they’ve had since day one. Outside of Travis’ superhuman technical prowess, blink-182 are not exactly known for rock-god musicianship, but that’s never mattered before and it still didn’t matter now that they’ve made the jump to baseball stadiums. They know exactly what they need to do to put on an endearing blink-182 show, and you might think it looks easy, but there’s no other trio in the world who does it like they do.

Cal In Red are a new-ish indie pop duo from Michigan (made up of brothers Connor and Kendall Wright), and they’re releasing their debut album Low Low on August 30 via B3SCI Records (pre-order). The project grew out of the brothers’ previous band Mertle, and it was during that band’s run that they initially caught the attention of The Shins. Mertle won The Shins’ 2017 Van Contest with a cover of “Painting A Hole,” and now Shins leader James Mercer lent his voice to Cal In Red’s new single , “Kitchen.” It’s a breezy, sunny indie pop song that’s cut from a similar cloth as early Shins, and it’s easy to picture fans of that band getting down with this one.

Ridgedale, MO

The Rolling Stones wrapped up their North American Hackney Diamonds tour, playing the 20th and final show of the run on Sunday night (7/21) at Ridgedale, Missouri’s Thunder Ridge Nature Arena. The setlist was hit-filled as ever, including “Let It Bleed” (the night’s fan-voted song), “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Sympathy for the Devil, “Gimme Shelter,” “Paint it Black,” and more, wrapping up with a two-song encore of “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” See the full setlist, and attendee-taken video, below.
