Rory McIlroy has whisked his family away for some quality time after a disappointing performance at The Open Championship at Royal Troon, where he missed the cut.

He , along with his wife Erica Stoll and their daughter Poppy, took off from Prestwick Airport on Saturday morning following his 11-over-par finish over two days.

The golfer's private Gulfstream jet set course for Faro, and from there, the family made their way to Almancil in the Algarve. Pictures exclusive to The Mirror surfaced of the family soaking up the sun, with 35-year-old McIlroy spotted shirtless enjoying the beach.

While three-year-old Poppy isn't seen in the photos, Stoll is seemingly holding the hand of a little one. This public outing in the Algarve by McIlroy and Stoll, alongside their child, signals that their marriage is back on solid ground.

This comes after McIlroy shocked fans in May by announcing that he and Stoll were divorcing after seven years, citing an "irretrievably broken" relationship.

Just days before the PGA Championship at Valhalla, where McIlroy was a strong contender for the Wannamaker Trophy but ended up tied for 12th place, news broke. However, by the time he teed off at the next major on the schedule the US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina McIlroy confirmed that he and his partner had made amends.

"There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate," he shared with The Guardian. "Responding to each rumor is a fool's game

"Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning."

McIlroy finished second at the U.S. Open in one of the most gut-wrenching moments of his career. He bogeyed three of the final four holes, losing a two-shot lead, and Bryson DeChambeau seized the opportunity to win his second major title.

The four-time major champion, who hasn't won a major title in a decade, was crushed as he quickly left the property and headed home. He announced the following day that he would be taking a three-week break from the game to spend time with his loved ones and clear his mind.

McIlroy and Stoll were spotted in a cheerful snapshot alongside Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald and fellow golfers Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Nicolai Hojgaard, and their significant others, as they geared up for the Scottish Open - his first event after the U.S. Open.

The golfer secured a tie for fourth at the event, but then faced disappointment at Troon shortly after. With The Masters on the horizon, McIlroy is looking at an eight-month wait for another shot at breaking his major title dry spell.McIlroy's ex-agent Andrew "Chubby" Chandler recently weighed in on Rory's performance, suggesting to talkSPORT that his personal life may be impacting his game.

"The top, top players obviously play better more often, and then the really top players take their chances," Chandler remarked. "That's all that's happened with Rory. Rory's played fantastically for ten years, he just doesn't take any chances.

"Looking from the outside, and I haven't seen Rory for a couple of years, but to me it looks like his life is messy. You know what it's like as a sportsman, you have to have total focus and keep your mind on what you're doing."

After a disheartening round at Troon where he began to fantasize about vacationing just four holes in, McIlroy's aspirations were dashed by a devastating triple bogey eight at the par-five fourth, crushing any hopes of making the cut.

"I think once I made the eight on the 4th hole, that was it," he confessed. "I was 22 holes into the event and I'm thinking about where I'm going to go on vacation next week. Yeah, that was basically it.

"I mean, I knew from then I'd sort of resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't going to shoot, whatever it is, 4- or 5-under from there on in to make the cut. It was a pretty meaningless 14 holes after that.

"Before the tournament, McIlroy expressed his regret for not fully appreciating his achievements in recent years. He shared with The Telegraph: "I need to take a step back and appreciate what I've done in my career and in my life and enjoy my success. I don't really enjoy my success and I haven't I would say for the last five.

"I haven't been on a vacation in probably four or five years. So I think just stepping back and enjoying myself a little bit more away from my game is the thing. Have some fun."

McIlroy first crossed paths with Stoll at the 2012 Ryder Cup where she was employed by the PGA of America. Their romance blossomed shortly after his breakup with tennis sensation Caroline Wozniacki in 2014, leading to a proposal in Paris the following year. The couple tied the knot in a grand ceremony in 2017 at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland.
