Morris County Authorities Probe Circumstances Surrounding Infant's Death in Parked Vehicle

EAST HANOVER, N.J. - In a heartrending incident, a six-month-old infant was found deceased in a parked vehicle in East Hanover, prompting a major investigation by local authorities. The distressing event unfolded on July 17, 2024, around 1:30 PM, when East Hanover Police responded to a 911 emergency involving a pediatric patient on South Ridgedale Avenue at Route 10.

Upon arrival, paramedics provided lifesaving attempts to the female infant who was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The mother of the infant has been hospitalized for treatment, adding to the tragic circumstances of the day.

The early findings suggest that the infant was accidentally left unattended in the vehicle. However, the exact cause and manner of the child's death are still pending and will be determined at a later stage.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and East Hanover Police Chief Christopher Cannizzo are overseeing the ongoing investigation, carried out by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit in collaboration with the East Hanover Police and Morris County Sheriff’s Office.

As the community reels from this tragedy, authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200 or the East Hanover Police Department at 973-887-0432.

Further details will be released as the investigation progresses, with officials currently withholding additional comments due to the sensitivity and active status of the case.
