Introducing dogs and cats can be a serious challenge — it's almost impossible to predict how it's going to go. Of course, you can prepare for a good outcome ahead of time by doing things like keeping them at a safe distance as everyone gets comfortable, but the bond they'll have as siblings living under the same roof is mostly up to them. Some dogs and cats will end up being the best of friends, while others may even end up avoiding each other entirely.
Sometimes, things do go right, and this adorable TikTok video is proof of that! While some people may not think that small cats and big dogs like these mix, in this case, their bond couldn't possibly be any sweeter.
This cute footage comes to us from @aboxernamedsteve on TikTok, who showed off their two Boxer dogs — MJ and Steve — who each have their own cats... and judging by the video, it looks like these pups have made it their personal responsibility to give the kitties all the cuddles they could ever dream of!
"Each of our Boxers have a cat," the dogs' human wrote in her caption. "MJ (our girl Boxer) is best friends with Taylor (our girl Scottish Fold ) and Steve (our male Boxer) now has Matt (our male Scottish Fold kitten). They love their kitties."
It certainly looks that way!
Baby Matt is a very new addition to the family. Just days before this video was posted, the family introduced their kitten to the world in a video that showed just how instantly Matt and Steve bonded (and yes, it's hilarious to have pets named Matt and Steve — they're really onto something here).
Are Boxers Good with Kittens?
As it turns out, there's a reason that so many people are marveling over how well these dogs and their cats get along — it's definitely not always a given when it comes to this breed.
According to Pedigree, Boxers who are well socialized often can coexist with cats, but they may not be well matched with kittens, since the breed tends to view small animals as prey. As we can see in this video, there are certainly exceptions for this, but it's another reason to be all the more careful when introducing your dogs to a new kitten.
For the best possible outcome, the site recommends securing your dog (either in their crate or in your lap) and allowing the cat to check the dog out on their own terms first. It's also important to give your cat an easy escape route so they can go chill out when they're ready (or if they feel scared or threatened).
