Warner Bros. Games has acquired Player First Games, the developer of the recently launched MultiVersus free-to-play platform fighter videogame.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Player First Games, based in Los Angeles, will join Warner Bros. Games and continue to be led by co-founders Tony Huynh, CEO and Chris White, chief technology officer. Huynh and White will report to Carlos Barbosa, vp and studio head of Warner Bros. Games San Diego, the development studio that has provided production support for MultiVersus.

The first game from Player First Games was launched in 2022 in an initial beta phase, before a formal commercial relaunch of the polished videogame by the developer in May 2024.

“We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch MultiVersus, and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros. Games,” David Haddad, president, Warner Bros. Games, said in a statement.

Warner Bros. Games is a division of Warner Bros. Discovery and a major publisher, developer and licensor of entertainment content for the games space.

“Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Games family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall. We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players,” CEO Huynh said in his own statement.

MultiVersus features a roster of popular characters based on Warner Bros. Discovery franchises.
