The Crystal Apple: Christine Farrior

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — It’s time for another edition of The Crystal Apple.

Once a month, News13 honors a teacher, counselor or school administrator who is making a difference in their Grand Strand and Pee Dee communities.

This month’s Crystal Apple goes to Christine Farrior, a professor of phlebotomy at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Along with being the July ‘Crystal Apple’ winner, Farrior is also the school’s professor of the year.

Farrior embodies the very essence of an unwavering commitment to the success of students. Through nearly a decade of teaching, she has challenged students and instilled within them the values of integrity, diligence and academic honesty.

Farrior said her favorite part of her job is the students, and she hopes she instills kindness in them as they begin their careers.

“Show everybody kindness throughout the day. That’s what I tell them,” Farrior said. “Even when you’re having a bad day, just ‘suck it up, buttercup.’ Just put that smile on, and pretty soon you’re going to feel it.”

The kindness extends into her family. Her son Ricky said: “I’ve seen days when my mother put everything she had into her students to make sure every single one of them succeeded. She’s a prime example of not just perseverance but also strength and grace.”

Farrior’s impact extends far beyond the walls of the college. From her tenure as a phlebotomist at Tidelands Hospital to her role as a clinical and lab coordinator, her colleagues said she has demonstrated commitment to excellence while serving as a mentor, guide, and source of inspiration for countless individuals.
