    New Jersey Senior Freeze checks distributed. Did you get it?

    The first round of the Senior Freeze rebate checks have been distributed to eligible New Jersey residents.

    The Department of the Treasury’s Division of Taxation began issuing the reimbursement checks to senior citizens or disabled persons that filed their application before May 1. Checks were issued starting July 15.

    This year the Department of Taxation has receive over 125,000 qualifying seniors applications across New Jersey — which is a 42% increase in the number of approved applications compared to last year's timeframe according to the news release.

    So far over $145 million has been paid out during the first round of payments.

    The Department of Taxation will continue to disburse payments as applications are approved. The deadline to file an application for Tax Year 2023 is Oct. 31.

    “Our Division of Taxation and Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services have worked hard to simplify and improve the process for our residents to apply for and receive this valuable property tax relief, and the tremendous increase to date in the number of approved applications this early in the season shows their efforts have paid off" said State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio.

    2023 Senior Freeze Payment Schedule

    • If you filed between May 1 - June 1, 2024 payments will be issued on or before September 1, 2024.
    • If you filed June 2 - September 1, 2024 payments will be will be issued on or before November 1, 2024.
    • If you file September 2 - November 1, 2024 payments will be will be issued on or before December 1, 2024.

    Senior Tax Freeze NJ eligibility requirements

    Qualifying residents have the option to apply and check the status of their application online through a new direct online filing service created by the Treasury in 2023 says the Department of Taxation.

    • Be age 65 or older on December 31, 2022, or receive Social Security disability payments on December 31, 2022, and also on December 31, 2023; and
    • Own and live in their home or lease a site in a mobile home park for a manufactured or mobile home that they have owned since December 31, 2019, or earlier; and
    • Paid all 2022 property taxes by June 1, 2023, and all 2023 property taxes by June 1, 2024; and
    • Their annual income was $150,000 or less in 2022 and $163,050 or less in 2023. With some exceptions, all income must be taken into account, including Social Security, pension
