    Why are flags flying at half-staff on Monday in Kentucky?

    FRANKFORT, KY (WOWK) – Flags will fly half-staff in Kentucky to honor a fallen service member.

    Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered that from sunrise to sunset on Monday, July 22, all flags at state buildings will be flown at half-staff in memory of U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Andrew Hemsath.

    LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

    The governor said Sgt. Hemsath died on July 5, while on active duty in Alaska. The Kentucky native was assigned to the 355th Fighter Generation Squadron at Eielson Air Force Base.

    Beshear said the family will hold a private service and burial for Hemsath on Monday.
