An 11 year old Irish girl tragically lost her life after falling from the seventh floor of a hotel in Majorca , where she was holidaying with her family.

The young girl's family were reportedly asleep when she ventured onto the terrace and fell, under circumstances that are currently being investigated by the police.

The incident occurred around 6.30am this morning at an undisclosed hotel in the family-friendly resort of Puerto de Alcudia, located in the northeast of Majorca. Local reports suggest the fall was accidental, however, the Civil Guard has yet to release any official statement.

Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the child but sadly, she was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled to take place later today.

It is believed that the family had plans to return home later today, reports the Irish Mirror .

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard in Majorca confirmed: "We are investigating the death of an 11-year-old Irish girl who died after plunging from a seventh-floor terrace at a hotel in Alcudia. The first emergency calls came in around 6.45 this morning."

Local police in Alcudia, who are employed by the town hall and were among the first responders on the scene, released a statement saying: "Around 6.45 this morning an alert was received saying a person had fallen from the balcony of their apartment on the Mac Hotels hotel complex. Immediately officers from this police unit as well as the Civil Guard and paramedics went to the scene."

"Once they were there they discovered an 11-year-old Irish girl who was already dead and had fallen from a seventh-floor balcony for reasons which are still being investigated. We wish to send our condolences to the family of this young girl. Rest in peace."
